Visualisation

I would imagine the music video for 'Disconnected' with Jazz in her house going downstairs and going though an old photo album of her and her brother when they were young. It would have flashbacks to them in their childhood home and then it would jump to him in Afghanistan fighting in the war and then back to her with the photos. It would also cut away during parts to her playing the piano and singing.

Shooting Schedule and Equipment List

Day 1 and 2 - Film everything in 'her' house.
Day 3 - Film the flashbacks at her old house and garden.
Day 4 - Film the scenes with Jazz in the abounded house with the grand piano.
Day 5 - A break from filming to travel.
Day 6,7 - Film the scenes in Iraq.
Day 8,9 - Edit.

Equipment List
(film) Camera, tripod, sound kit, dolly and track, lights.
House, furniture, piano, kids toys, props (everything that goes in a house).
An old big house, grand piano, sofa, white sheets, aged curtains.
Bunker, bunk beds, lockers, bags.
Guns, uniform, bombs, hats.

Disconnected - Brief

To start off with, the video would have Jazz waking up and getting out of bed. She would then go downstairs and walk past per piano, noticing an old photo above it, the camera would pan and track behind and past her. The camera would zoom into the picture of her and her brother. It would then cut to her holding it and placing it back on the piano. It would then cut to her playing the piano in an abandoned room, with white sheets over old furniture in the background. It would be quite light, yet grey, showing the emptiness since her brother has gone away. It would then cut back to her in her house picking up an old photo album and sitting on a big arm chair looking through it. The camera would go behind her and look at the photos zooming into it until it fills the screen. The photo would when move to create a flashback of the moment she is remembering and cut back to her looking at it again turning the pages. It would then cut back to her playing the piano and singing. It would then cut to her brother in afghanistan looking at a picture of her and then something happens and everyone has to rush out so the photo gets thrown down. The next scene is of him fighting and shooting amongst everything.

Initial Listen- Jazz Morely

The mood of the piece is sad as it is about her brother going to war. This is conveyed by the tone as it has low notes and is quite slow. She has kept the music simple with her voice being accompanied by a piano which makes it sound more real and emotional.  "Disconnected" is the name of the song and shows the relationship between her and her brother now that he has moved away.
The song reminds me of Adele 'Someone like you' as they both convey feelings about a relationship  breaking down whether it's an ex boyfriend or a brother. They both sing accompanied with a piano and let the emotions of the song come through to the audience. This is kept simple and works well. If it was up beat it wouldn't have the same effect and wouldn't work as well because the song would loose meaning.
I would class this song as acoustic soul. This is because its only her voice and one other instrument, in this case a piano. The lyrics and the way in which she sings also make it soul because of the emotion.

Coldplay- The Scientist.

The music i am going to analysize is The Scientist by Coldplay.
The tone and the mood of the music is sad and regretful. This is shown by the music video being played backwards accompanied with the lyric "going back to the start". The video shows the story of a couple driving along in a car, the woman wants to take her jacket off so temporally takes her seat-belt off to do so. Before she can put it back on a large lorry makes them swerve off the road and the car rolls down a hill. She is catapulted out of the window and lays lifeless. Her partner is left in the car unharmed and walks off into the woods so he doesn't have to see her lying there.
The music goes well with the lyrics as it helps to tell the story.

Presentation Evaluation

We had just given our presentation.

We decided to do our presentation on a scene from Scott Pilgrim, when he has to fight Roxy Richter. We chose this because there are plenty of different sounds that we could analyze and we all knew the film well.
I think that our presentation went well, we all worked together to produce the
powerpoint and tried to go into a lot of detail.
If I was to do this again I would analyze it slightly further to get a higher grade.
I think we used the glossary well as we broke the different types of sounds down and gave examples within the film for each one. This would have been harder to do if we hadn't learnt the correct terminology.
I learnt how to dissect different types of sound within a well known film, looking at how they are used and what the effects of them are.

Opening sequence to Sherlock Holmes.

The opening sequence in Sherlock Holmes starts off with some tinkly piano music. This could be described as theme music for Sherlock Holmes.
This is followed by the sound of horses and carts with their chains clinking. These are diegetic sounds as they appear in the film.
A voice over appears next which gives an insight into what a character is thinking. This is non diagetic.
The sound of a gun would be classed as non diagetic or selective sound as it is enhanched in post production.
The sound effects are also non daigetic as they are added afterwards.
However the breathing, chanting and the dialogue are all diagetic as they are recoreded whilst filming as they are in the scene.
The background music changes pace and volume during this scene. It starts off loud and gets faster to build tension when the horses or Sherlock Holmes are running. It drops right down when there is either  VO or dialogue. Different music which is a lot deeper and slower comes when we are introduced to Lord Blackwood.
